Civil Wars: Breaking up!

Sad news today in (my) music world. The Civil Wars have announced a formal breakup of the band, citing artistic differences.

In a statement on their Facebook page, the band managers said “The Civil Wars — made up of duo partners Joy Williams and John Paul White — have regretfully decided to permanently part ways. The difficult decision ends a tumultuous period for the four-time Grammy Award-winning band, who has been on indefinite hiatus since late 2012.”

Personally, I am crushed. The album Barton Hollow is on of my very favorites. After they won Grammys for Best Folk Album, Best Country Duo/Group Performance, I though they’d stick around for a while to come.

But like so many others, it seems they had some irreconcilable creative differences between them. You can read their joint statement, here in the band’s website, for the rest.

RIP Civil Wars!  Here’s hoping for a reunion tour.
