HALLOWEEN DIY: GLOW-IN-THE-DARK CRYSTAL BALL

Along with the rest of my Glow in the Dark Decorations, I really wanted to try and make a crystal ball! It came out wonderfully, and I couldn’t be happier with it!  Here it is:

I got some ideas off Pinterest and the internet. There are some really great tutorials for making a crystal ball decoration. But none for making a glow-in-the-dark version. So, I had to come up with my own. Here are my materials:

I got a simple round plastic ball ornament from the craft store. A bag of various plastic toys from the dollar store. And some wire.

I wanted it to have a “looking into another wordly” vibe. So I spray painted the inside of the ball ornament with Krylon Looking Glass spray paint. (Just shoot the paint inside, swirl it around, and then pour out the excess.)  Here’s how it looked afterwards:

Then I hacked up plastic skeleton toy from the Dollar Tree bag of toys. And I used the wire (which is about the thickness of a paper clip) to manipulate it into a scary “pointing at you” shape. I left a wire part as a base where I could glue it into place.

Then I spray painted it with the silver paint.

Then I glued the whole thing together.

Then I spray painted the outside of it with Krylon Glowz glow-in-the-dark spray paint. But I left the area around the skull unpainted. (So that you could see it.) I did not use any painters tape on this. I just free-handed it!

Here’s how it looked under the black light:

Then I found the (heavy) glass top of a small cheap candle and glued it over the top of the ornament to create a “base” for the crystal ball. Voila:
