Halloween Decor: An Unkindness of Ravens (Poe Display)

One of my favorite bits of decoration from our Halloween Party last year was my ravens and typewriter Poe Display.

Bruce already owns an Underwood No. 5 typewriter that usually sits on our mantel. I started y typing the haunting refrain from Edgar Allen Poe’s poem “The Raven” in repeat zig-zags across a piece of paper. It took a few tries, but eventually I got it.

I found some little plastic ravens with real feathers at the Dollar Tree, and arranged them on the typewriter. They have wires sticking out of the bottoms of their little feet, so it was easy to wrap them around the keys of the typewriter.

It made for a really cute little vignette on our mantel! I loved it so much that I decided to reprise it again this year, and incorporate it in my little “workshop of magic” vignette with my Haunted Books.
