If you need a super easy fun activity for a Halloween party or gathering, I have one for you! It’s a DIY Halloween Checkers Board with Mini Pumpkins!
Isn’t this just the cutest idea? I saw one at our local Garden Nursery’s pumpkin patch, so I had to make one of my own.
Honestly, the only complicated thing about it is the size. In order to accommodate even the smallest mini pumpkin, you have to have a pretty big board. I used plywood. In retrospect, it might be a better idea to paint it on a plastic table cloth that could be rolled up and stored after wards. Oh well!
What you need:
- 24 mini pumpkins (and maybe a couple extra)
- Large piece of plywood (I went with 36 inches x 36 inches)
- Black, White, and Red paints (I used acrylic)
- Paint Brush & Ruler
Start by drawing your checker board with a sharpie.
A checkers game board has 64 squares (8 squares across X 8 squares long). Since mini pumpkin are about 3 inches big, I made each square 4″ x 4″ in size. Then I had room for a 3 inch border around the edges.
After you get it all drawn out, start painting the squares, alternating red and black. Once those dry, paint the white border and let the whole thing dry. After it is thoroughly dry, add pumpkins, and you are done!
